Water & Flood Restoration FAQs

  • How long does it take to dry out water damage?

Unfortunately, there is no exact estimate on how long the drying process would take. But, in general, a water damaged home can dry out for around 3-5 days. In some cases, it would take as little as two days, and other times it takes several weeks to dry out a home.

  • What is water restoration vs. water mitigation?

Restoration and mitigation refer to two separate services provided after a water incident occurs. While water mitigation focuses on prevention, water restoration deals with damage. Water mitigation services are used to prevent further damage from occurring in the first place. A water mitigation company will focus on removing your belongings from the water source and preventing future damage. Water damage restoration is performed after the damage has already occurred and is usually an emergency service. During the restoration, specialists repair or replace materials that were destroyed, and return the home to its former state.

  • How long does water damage restoration take?

The time that water damage repairs take to complete will depend on the time it takes for the material affected to dry up. A safe time to assume is 72 hours on an average basis for 1 room to be dried out and ready for reconstruction followed by 1-2 weeks for the actual water damage repairs.

  • What are the different categories of water?

The source of the water is a good start to determining the category but not always enough.  If water sits in building materials too long, it will leach out chemicals in glues, stains, etc.  This turns the category to 3 if not dried out in a timely manner.

    • Category 1. "Clean Water" is from a source that poses no substantial harm to people.
    • Category 2. "Grey Water" poses health risks due to significant levels of contamination of bacteria, mold and/or chemicals.
    • Category 3. "Black Water" contains disease-causing organisms, toxins, and is grossly unsanitary.

Mold Restoration FAQs

  • What is the difference between mold removal and mold remediation?

The difference between mold removal and mold remediation is that mold removal is physically removing all mold spores while mold remediation focuses on returning mold levels to normal, natural levels. Mold remediation of a mold-infested property will return mold levels to an acceptable, natural level.

  • Will mold come back after remediation?

It is possible for mold to return after remediation, but only if you fail to find the source of moisture creating the mold problem. It is imperative that the source of water is fixed, whether that is a leaky window or a cracked pipe.

  • How long does mold removal take?

The time it takes for the mold removal process depends on many factors such as how much mold is present, where the mold is growing (behind walls, etc.), and the materials it grows on. Most mold removal (remediation) takes anywhere from 1 day to 5 days.

Fire & Smoke Restoration FAQs

  • How long does the fire damage repair process take?

Professionals can complete smaller fire repairs in a day or two, but extensive repairs can take up to several months. The size of the fire and affected household areas will determine your concrete timeline, costs can average anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000 to recover and restore your home after a small fire. Larger fires that destroy your roof or kitchen can cost as high as $50,000 and up.

  • Can you live in your home while fire damage restoration is ongoing?

Simply put, a house fire is one of the most traumatic things that can happen in a person’s life. Your home is your sanctuary. It is where you are supposed to feel the safest. But a house fire can shatter that feeling of safety and replace it with a sense of unease. No matter how big or small the fire that caused it was. Smoke damage is a major health risk, whether it’s the result of a full-on house fire or a localized fire that was contained to one room. Even if you cannot see any smoke, there could still be smoke particles which you cannot see.

Hoarding Cleanup

  • How long does it take to clean a hoarder’s house?

Timing differs for each home depending on volume, size, hazards, and more. Professional cleaners can clean a home in 3-5 days. Depending on the person who is hoarding, the process can easily be extended for several weeks.

  • What types of clients do you typically work with?

The vast majority of those who contact us are in the midst of attempting to declutter/liquidate an estate after the death of a family member or in cases where they are legally appointed guardians or conservators. We are also contacted by seniors themselves—or their legal representatives—needing assistance with downsizing the estate or with packing and making all needed arrangements to ensure a safe, smooth transition to an alternative residential environment.
